Can I just go on a rant about how beautiful the Dominican Republic is?

I’m not talking about the beaches and resorts. In fact, I’ve never been to those, although I’m sure they are gorgeous.

I’m talking about Santiago. The rushing city with the most friendly people you will ever meet. The guaguas that fit 20 when they should fit 5.  The Skim Ice on every corner.  The fresh bananas and pineapples that grow right outside every building.  Waking up to a nice “cock-a-doodle doo” and lots of mooing. Cherishing water like it’s liquid gold.  Taking in the most beautiful landscape possible while listening to the chattering city. 

I’m talking about the Haitian bateys, and Cienfuegos. The banana farms and the mountains. The sticky, warm air that surrounds you like a blanket.  The best chicken and pineapple you will ever eat.  The windows that are simply intricate holes in the wall.  The waterfall that hides behind a mountaintop monastery.  

This is my happy place.

And it will always be the most beautiful place in the world.
